Dear Children’s Village Families,

Happy fall and happy October! We have a very busy and eventful month ahead of us here at Children’s Village. Please keep an eye out for monthly event flyers located on your child’s Parent Board.
Don’t Forget! Back to School Night is on the evening of October 4th from 6:15-8:00p. Children are invited to join us this evening for our Fall Festival and will enjoy taking home their own pumpkin from our pumpkin patch, finding their way through a hay maze, face painting, and plenty of fall games and activities. While the little ones enjoy the festival, classroom teachers will be giving a short discussion on class schedules, curriculum goals, and answering your individual questions. This will be an informative evening and a wonderful opportunity to see your child’s classroom from his or her perspective. We hope to see you all there!

~Kelly

The Great California Shake Out is a worldwide earthquake drill and preparedness activity that all of Children’s Village will take part in on Thursday, October 20th at 10:20am. We will be practicing how to “Drop, Cover and Hold On” in the case of an earthquake. Major earthquakes can cause unprecedented catastrophes. With earthquakes as an inevitable part of our future, we have plans in place to take action to ensure an earthquake disaster does not become a catastrophe. Please help us encourage earthquake safety within your little ones.
As part of our emergency preparedness plan, we require that each student have an “emergency pack” that will be located on school premises for staff to handle in the case of an emergency. Students who have an emergency pack dated from 2015 may be required to turn in fresh packs if items included have expired.

Emergency packs should include the following:
- A family photo
- A letter from parents to their child for reassurance, including emergency contact information
- A bottle water
- 1-2 nonperishable snack items

Please make sure to place these items in a freezer size Ziploc bag with your child’s name labeled on it in bold, black ink and the date in which the pack was prepared.

This year, Halloween falls on a Monday; if your child’s regular schedule does not include Mondays you are welcome and encouraged to come and stay with your child during our schoolwide parade and classroom parties. Adding an extra “drop-in” day is available as well.

Meet the Masters
Introducing art into the lives of young children is something we take pride in here at Children’s Village. Art enhances a child’s creativity, imagination, emotion and self-esteem. Art also encourages cognition, critical thinking and learning. We also use art to teach subjects such as math, literacy and science. The most effective learning takes place when children do something related to the topic they are learning. When children study a given concept, they learn better and retain it longer if they do an art activity that reinforces that learning.

Each month our teachers introduce a Master Artist during classroom Circle Times, and establish a routine for replicating each artist’s techniques during art lesson plans. In September, we introduced our students to Leonardo da Vinci showcasing the Mona Lisa and his famous “Hand Drawing”. Each class replicated da Vinci’s work at their own developmental level in a cooperative learning setting, providing a pleasurable and challenging experience for all in gaining a sense of art mastery.

Please make sure to visit your child’s classroom each month to view the
work they’ve created that they are all so very proud of!
